Preparing for a race is hard work, takes time and can be ended immediately from injury. Training can be interrupted because of fatigue, sore or aching muscles and mentally draining from sub-optimal performances.
We spend all day sitting at a desk, in the car and on the couch. We are either sedentary or training with exercises that have a limited and repetitive range of motion, like swimming, cycling and running. We no longer move in ways where we have to find the end range of motion. Limited movement compounds and our ability to find move well declines.
Niggles, pain and swelling are indicators from your body that something isn’t quite right. They don’t just go away. In order to get back to doing the exercise, activities and sports you enjoy you have to change the bad habits that caused the injury and build new beneficial habits that bring you back to moving well.
The right move mechanics means the right muscles do the work. Poor movement mechanics means muscles are doing work beyond what they were designed for, causing injuries.
